Dear valued customer,
As you may be aware, on February 11th, 2021 a fire broke out at the Hettich Umformtechnik GmbH & Co. KG facility in Berlin Marienfelde. The first, and most important point, is that thankfully nobody was injured in the fire and it was extinguished quickly by the German fire authorities.
Hettich operates a stamping plant, a heat-treatment plant and an electroplating plant in Berlin covering an area of around 18,000 m², of which around 5,000 m² is taken up by electroplating. In the latter, surfaces for furniture fitting components are electrochemically coated with metals.
According to initial estimates, the cause of the fire is believed to be a technical defect. The damage is now being further analysed and assessed on site and the next steps are being coordinated. N.A.A and Hettich extend our thanks to the firefighters on site and will provide all of the support necessary for any colleagues affected. Unfortunately, this does mean that the facility will be temporarily unable to operate its normal finishing of both Sensys and Intermat hinge components with copper-nickel surfaces.
However, we are very pleased to announce that our Sensys and Intermat hinge production will resume shortly as Hettich have received commitments from external electroplating companies to manufacture the required components.
It is also important to highlight that no other product groups were affected by this fire.
Rest assured that no disadvantages are to be expected, both in functional terms and with regard to the corrosion protection of our Intermat or Sensys hinges. We will, of course, arrange for meaningful tests to be carried out as soon as possible and we can provide the corresponding test reports, if requested.
